Biñan, San Pedro triumph
BIÑAN City — Vice Gel-Biñan City clobbered Sto. Tomas City-Mr. Cow, 84-50, while San Pedro City- AMB outsteadied Santa Rosa City 77-66, for their second straight win in the 2022 National Basketball League (NBL) Inter-City Basketball Championship at the Colegio de San Agustin gym in Southwoods.
Veterans Allan Mangahas and Michael Mabulac provided the firepower to lead Vice Gel-Biñan City of Vice Mayor Gel Alonte and coach Almer Almazora to victory in this nine-team tournament organized by the NBL, headed by Leonardo “Ding” Andres.
Mangahas, who was named as the best player of the game, finished with 12 points while orchestrating the plays for the Biñan team supported by Mayor Walfredo R. Dimaguila, Jr.
Mabulac, a 6-3 former San Miguel mainstay, and Jazzle Cardeno contributed 10 points apiece for Biñan City, which debuted with a 99-92 victory over San Pedro City-Leads Agri.
Aeron Gabas carried the fight for Arja Murillo- mentored Sto. Tomas City, Batangas squad with 11 points.
Meanwhile, Jesus Manay, Allen Bernard Papa, Duke Thomas Madelo and Michael Joseph Homo combined for 40 points in the second straight victory of the Aaron P. Mendoza-coached AMB.
AMB defeated Divertex-Nasugbu, Batangas, 88-65 in its first game.
Manay topscored with 13 points for San Pedro City-AMB which is being supported by Atty. Melvin A. Matibag and Congresswoman Ma. Rene Ann Lourdes G. Matibag.
Sean Michael Sandoval scored 18 points and Johan Kurt Makalintal had 15 points for coach JayAr Dichoso-led Santa Rosa City, which dropped to 1-1 win-loss card.
In the first game, Paete-PGFlex rode on the buzzer-beating basket of Adam Madrelejos to beat Divertex-Nasugbu, 83-82.
Madrelejos led all scorers with 26 points, including a buzzer-beater from halfcourt to give Paete team of former national coach Johny Tam a winning start.
Mark Fraginal and Rex Leynes added 15 and 14 points, respectively, for Paete-PG Flex supported by Mayor Ronald B. Cosico.
Edward Villanueva and Dan Lord Magpantay combined for 40 points for Nasugbu.
Also, San Pedro City-Leads Agri defeated Cabuyao City-DenHa Tigers, 83-70, for its first win in two outings.
Prinze Adrian Custodio had 12 points for Leads Agri of coach Dharies Creencia and team manager Jofer Malveda. AA
