The 3rd National City League (NCL) Basketball Championship unwraps on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila.
The inaugural game, which will be played at 7:00 p.m., features Manila vs. Pasig City.
Host of the 3rd NCL Championship is the Manila City Sports Council (MASCO) headed by its chairman Niño Dela Cruz and supported by the Philippine Integrated Chinese Athletic Association (PICAA) and the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP).
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), through Secretary Ronaldo Puno, has been requested to endorse the competitions.
According to Graham C. Lim, the Organizing Committee Chairman and BAP secretary general, "The NCL began in 2007 after it reorganized Inter-Municipalities Basketball Championship (IMBC). At the time, the IMBC was recognized by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) under Secretary Rafael Alunan. In 2007, we changed the IMBC into National City League (NCL) Championship for a broader coverage of local government participation in our sports activities, including those in the municipality, city, and provincial levels"
Aside from Manila and Pasig City, other teams in this year's competitions include Pampanga of Mayor Dennis Pineda, General Trias of Cavite, Zamboanga City, Dagupan City of Mayor Alipio Fernandez, and Alex Wang's Ball Club-sponsored Mandaluyong City.😎😎
The 1st NCL in 2007 was hosted by MASCO under Mayor Alfredo S. Lim. The 2nd NCL was hosted by Quezon City through the Quezon City Athletic Association (QCAA) and the office of Quezon City Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista.
